Where to Visit in Pembrokeshire Near Rhosygilwen
Teifi Valley and Teifi Gorge
The River Teifi is one of the most beautiful rivers in Wales. From its source in the remote hills of North Ceredigion it runs southwest through Tregaron and Lampeter to Llandysul before turning west through Newcastle Emlyn and onto the sea at Cardigan. This last stretch, famous for its salmon and trout fishing, passes just to the north of Rhosygilwen.
Further west, the Teifi Gorge, sometimes known as the Cilgerran Gorge, lies the ruins of 13th century Cilgerran Castle (National Trust). The ruins dramatically overlook the river as it passes through a beautiful narrow gorge that inspired JMW Turner centuries ago.
The Welsh Wildlife Centre
The Welsh Wildlife Centre stands at the end of the gorge in the Teifi Marsh Nature Reserve. The award-winning centre hosts activities and exhibitions, and has a shop and café, while the Reserve has a number of trails and hides. Much of the site can be accessed by people of all abilities.
The Centre can be reached on foot or bicycle from Cardigan by using the Cardi Bach cycle route which follows the disused railway line through the marshes before continuing on to Cilgerran.
